        The 2018 Forbidden City International Pharmacists Forum will be held in Beijing Conference Center from May 11 to May 13. The Forum is initiated by China Health Promotion Foundation;,Zhongguancun Zhuo Yi Chronic Disease Prevention; Institute of Science and Technology Innovation; American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists; China-Japan Medical Science and Technology Exchange Association; Pharmaceutical Tools Net, and “Drug Evaluation” magazine.
        This year is the tenth anniversary year for the Forbidden City International Pharmacists Forum. In recent years, we have been adhering to the core concept of "let us practice together ",and have been committed to promote the professional development of pharmacists, improving the rational use of medication in our country, innovating and improving constantly on the road of development, and establishing an informationalized and international platform for pharmacists to exchange learning and demonstrate themselves.
        The World Health Organization released a report on September 20, 2017 confirming that the world's antimicrobial agents were near exhaustion. The report indicated that the development of new antimicrobial agents was extremely inadequate and it was difficult to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. Because of irrational use of medications, human existence is facing a huge threat. Rational medication use is a major issue in the world. WHO estimated that more than half of all prescribed medications were dispensed or sold inappropriately, and that half of those patients who received medication therapy did not use the medications properly. Overuse, underuse and improper use of medications leads to the waste of scarce resources and widespread health hazards. Rational use of medications requires health care professionals and all sectors of society to work together, conduct interdisciplinary exchanges, syncretise new ideas and new trends in all sectors of society. Health care professionals, especially pharmacists, should give full play to their role in monitoring and managing patient medication therapy, ensuring patients’ medication safety and improving rational medication use in China, in response to the third WHO global patient safety challenge – Medication safety.
        The 2018 Forbidden City International Pharmacists Forum is themed on "Patient’s Medication Safety and Challenges- Pharmacists are in Action", which is based on the practice of pharmacists. Many topic discussions are held, such as the establishment of drug injury prevention mechanisms, medication errors in hospital and system management, pharmacist values in health management, chronic disease management and prevention of medication injury, children's drug development and clinical applications, and also the elderly patients care. Furthermore, the Young Pharmacists Debate, the Fourth Session of the Chinese Pharmacists Professional Skills Competition, Healthy China –Public Education about Rational Use of Medications Competition, Professional Skills SharingWorkshop and many other events are going to be held. We invited a large group of domestic andinternational pharmacists to share and discuss about their successful experiences, lessonlearnedfrom failure, dilemmas, new thinking and methods. We will have top-level experts giving marvelousspeeches here. This forum will be an academic feast that you cannot miss.
